The Dutch negative quantifier "geen enkele"

Abstract: In this talk will be discussed the properties of the Dutch complex determiner "geen enkele" (not a single) and some fairly recent diachronic developments surrounding this expression (involving an extension of its use from singular count expressions to abstract mass nouns, and most recently, certain plurals as well). The expression will be compared and contrasted with the simplex determiner "geen" (no), and some distributional differences with this expression will be noted. The discussion will be based on a corpus study of about 2500 occurrences of "geen enkele."
