Ancient Greek has many interesting semantic and pragmatic features among which its abundance of particles, its intricate tense and aspect system, and negative concord. Although these phenomena are well studied in classics, they are relatively unknown to the semantic community at large. This is the more surprising given the potential repercussions for general semantic and pragmatic theory. Accordingly, the purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers from these different backgrounds in order to bridge the gap and facilitate cross-fertilization between the disciplines.
We invite abstracts covering any topic from the semantics and pragmatics of Ancient Greek. Potential topics include, but are by no means limited to: verbal semantics, case and spatial relations, particles, report constructions, tense, aspect, modality, discourse structure, anaphora, deixis, and quantication. The only limitation is that the analysis should be clearly embedded within a theoretical framework to your choice.
