  • July 2021: Corien and Emar's paper on the landscape of speech reporting has been published in Semantics and Pragmatics.
  • June 2021: Kees has successfully defended his dissertation entitled 'Polysemous particles in Ancient Greek. A study with special reference to μήν and δή' (cum laude). He has accepted the invitation to publish the dissertation with Brill.
  • June 2020: The first papers of our special collection on narrative perspective entitled The Language of Perspective have been published in the Open Library of Humanities Journal. More papers will follow during the next months.
  • December 18, 2019: Leopold has successfully defended his dissertation entitled 'Perspective and Word Choice. A study of Expressives, Slurs and Narrative'. The dissertation is a collection of papers of which six have already been published or will appear soon. Check his Academia page. We wish him all the best in his new project on idealogical speech, supported by a personal grant from the Polish National Science Centre.
  • July 16, 2019: Leopold has won the 2018 Early Career Research Award from the Journal of Pragmatics for his paper Perspectival Expressives.
  • June 6-8, 2019: Corien will give a keynote lecture at the workshop Expressing Evidence in Konstanz.
  • March 7, 2019: Our paper on narrator and character language has been accepted for publication in Digital Scholarship in the Humanities. Update June 25, 2019: It has been published online (open access).
  • January 23, 2019: We are organizing the workshop 'Multiple Perspectives' to bring together different strands of research on narrative perspective.
  • June 15, 2018: Corien will give her inaugural lecture. The title of her lecture is 'Change Perspective'. If you would like to attend this lecture, you can register through www.ru.nl/bary (or just walk in).
  • May 2018: Leopold has published his ideas on shifted interpretations of expressives in Journal of Pragmatics.
  • April 2018: Corien's paper paper on reportative markers in Herodotus has been published in the Open Library of Humanities.
  • April 13, 2018: Leopold and Corien present their statistical work on narrator and character language in Thucydides at the conference 'A corpus and usage-based approach to Ancient Greek: from the Archaic period until the Koine'.
  • November 14, 2017: Per Erik, who was a guest researcher in our project, defends his PhD thesis on Latin 'se' at the University of Oslo. Corien gives a talk on embedded tense at the Oslo Theoretical Linguistics Seminar the day after.
  • September 7-9, 2017: Corien presents her experimental work on embedded tenses in speech reports at Sinn und Bedeutung. The poster (joint work with Daniel Altshuler, Kristen Syrett and Peter de Swart) can be found here.
  • June 29-30, 2017: We are organizing a workshop on particles and the dimensions of meaning. The call for papers is open.
  • June 21-23, 2017: Corien presents her experimental work on embedded tense in speech reports (in collaboration with Daniel Altshuler, Kristen Syrett and Peter de Swart) at XPrag 2017 in Cologne.
  • June 1-2, 2017: Presentation of the Ancient Greek lemmatizer and part-of-speech tagger that we developed at Datech (Digital Access to Cultural Heritage) in Göttingen.
  • The proceedings of the Linguistic Annotation Workshop at the EACL, where we present our annotation work, are available.
  • May 19, 2017: We present our corpus work at the OIKOS day on Digital Humanities in Utrecht.
  • May 12-17, 2017: Leopold presents his work on expressive meanings and commitments de lingua at PhiLang and on pragmatic theories of slurs at New Developments in Linguistic Pragmatics, both in Lodz, Poland.
  • May 8-10, 2017: Corien presents her work on the distinction between eventive and evidential speech reports (joint work with Emar Maier) at the UiO-Xprag.de workshop Non-at-issue Meaning and Information Structure.
  • April 3-4th, 2017: We present our annotation work for speech, attitude and perception reports at the Linguistic Annotation Workshop at the EACL Conference in Valencia.
  • Kees' paper "The Attic particle μήν: intersubjectivity, contrast and polysemy" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Greek Linguistics.
  • January 6th, 2017: Kees presents his thoughts on the relation between different uses of the ancient Greek particle 'de' at CogLing7, organized at the Radboud University.
  • Corien is visiting the Department of Linguistics at the University of British Columbia from August - October 2016 to work with Lisa Matthewson.
  • May 17th, 2016: Per Erik gives a talk on long-distance reflexives and the event-semantics of perspective shift at the ZAS in Berlin.
  • April 8th, 2016: Corien argues Why the Historical Present is not the Mirror Image of Free Indirect Discourse at the Perspectivization Workshop at GLOW.
  • January 29th, 2016: Kees presents his thoughts on the use of the Greek particle μήν in questions at the Hellenistendag, organized at the UvA.
  • Per Erik Solberg from the University of Oslo is joining our project as a visting researcher from January-June 2016. He writes a dissertation on logophoricity in Latin.
  • January 15th, 2016: Workshop Backgrounded reports. Commitment and negation in parenthetical reports and reportative evidentials.
  • December 16-18, 2015: Corien presents her joint work with Emar Maier on backgrounded reports at the Amsterdam Colloquium.
  • November 21st, 2015: Kees presents his work on the Ancient Greek attitudinal particle μήν at the Katwijk Conference Language of Literature.
  • Leopold is visiting the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh from September - December 2015 to work under the supervision of Robert Brandom.
